Image Processing

At the heart of 3D perception’s theater solutions is Northstar nBox, an all-in-one image processing appliance that scales, warps, blends and color corrects content at zero frame latency. nBox is the next-generation evolution of the widely fielded CompactUTM.

nBox outputs to multiple projectors at resolutions up to WQXGA and 4K and seamlessly displays imagery across flat, cylindrical, conical, and spherical screens. Between projectors, nBox synchronizes color, contrast, brightness, gamma, and compensates for hot spots, creating a truly consistent image. nBox takes viewing frustums into account as defined by the user and treats the multi-projector theater as one contiguous display — not as an array of individually controlled projectors.

nBox speeds up the process of setting up a projection system, since the requirement for precise mechanical alignment is drastically reduced. Pre-projector adjustment provides much freedom in selecting projector/screen geometry. nBox also supports active and passive stereo (3D) projection.

Smart Screens

3D perception’s Northstar Aurora is a unique, modular, smart screen system. Using embedded sensors, Aurora screens can detect the alignment and quality of projector images, communicate back to Northstar nBox, and automatically make precision adjustments to geometry, edge blending and color. We call it WarpSync and ChromaSync.

Aurora screens are available in spherical and cylindrical configurations for any size requirements. Screens are modularly segmented and can be configured at any horizontal and vertical field of view, up to complete dome display systems. Existing screens can also be retrofitted with Aurora sensor technology.

Northstar Aurora is the new name for CompactClick, and our entire line of smart screens.

System Control

Most simulation applications have high-level requirements for image quality, stability and consistency. Frequent brightness and color adjustments are required in most simulators and projection theaters have to be regularly realigned, especially after lamp replacement or maintenance.

nControl is an intuitive, user-friendly graphical software interface for control and maintenance and allows the user to approach the display as an integrated system, not as discrete components.

nControl is responsible for maintaining a consistently pixel-perfect image, and in concert with nBox and Aurora, it automatically performs geometry adjustment, edge blending, color balancing, and gamma correction. With a push of a button, it automates maintenance procedures and will readjust the system's image in seconds.
nControl can be used to quickly switch between training profiles like from daytime operations to night vision goggle training.
